A manufacturing system consists of a number of discrete components, or islands, which traditionally function as discrete processes. The connection between such islands has traditionally been by manual intervention requiring telephone, fax, email, etc, to route vital information back to and between different business functions, resulting in a slow and drawn-out rate of progress from the "raw materials in" stage to the "final product out" stage.
The role of a manufacturing information system is to provide a route for that information to flow quicker on an as-required basis and hence aid the throughput of product out of the gate.
Intuitive designs and implements MIS systems to the ISA S95 standard, which provides definitions, guidelines and models for creating an Automated Manufacturing Process. The standard maps out where the various components mentioned above e.g. ERP, MES, etc fit within the overall delivery process.
At Intuitive our aim is to work with your business to determine what your data needs are and how to integrate, into your enterprise, the equipment that may generate that data. This can be handled as a self-contained project or by the provision of one of our technical specialists to your business, to work as an embedded member of your team.
Because of the nature of our customer base our specialists have training not only in vendor and technology skills but also in industry standards, project life cycle considerations and regulatory/validation matters.
Over the last few years a number of our technical specialists have worked as embedded engineers within customer teams. For systems such as manufacturing information systems, which are by their very nature evolutionary, this method appears to work best. It allows the customer to utilise our expertise in many ways without the contractual and financial constraints inherent in a traditional project.
One of our ongoing partnerships has utilised Intuitive personnel in this way to design the enterprise information architecture, generate the documentation suite, and implement the solution. We are currently engaged in the ongoing process of data analytics, working with the customer to present the information in the optimum way for its business needs.
The customer benefits of this approach have been:
