Intuitive DeltaV AutoDoc is an extremely powerful and user-friendly tool to automatically document Emerson DeltaV code. Based on feedback from our past projects and various clients, we understand that not only is the amount of man-hours and cost spent in keeping the documentation up to date with the latest code changes is extremely large, but also error-prone and inaccurate even in the best of cases. Typically, in a medium to large-sized sized project there are about 700-1000 automation related documents and it is extremely challenging to keep these documents up to date.

A number of modern software development processes utilize the concept of prototyping to develop accurate user requirements; Intuitive's DeltaV Autodoc tool leverages this prototype to generate Design documentation for the system. Intuitive has experienced phenomenal success in using the "spiral-model" software development process. By developing a prototype our engineers gain a better understanding of the customers' requirements and agreement can be obtained as to exactly what those requirements are, across all of the disciplines of the project.

A simple template document is created in Microsoft Word and registered in DeltaV Autodoc. A DeltaV exported configuration file (.fhx) is then passed through the Autodoc tool, which then creates a full Design or "As built" document based on the template document populated with data from the FHX
